Symptoms of the Flu

It can often be difficult to differentiate between flu-like symptoms and the common cold. They both can include symptoms of fever, chills, cough, sore throat, runny nose, muscle or body aches, and fatigue. If your child is experiencing any of these symptoms you will want to take them to their doctor ASAP to ensure that if your child does have the flu that it is caught early on.

Vaccinations

Even though they are seen as controversial, most child care centers do require for your child to be vaccinated for the flu, unless there is some special reasoning as to why the vaccine is not required. We recommend getting your child vaccinated at the beginning of the season so that you can rest easy all season long!

Teach Proper Coughing Etiquette

Be sure to teach your child to cover the mouth and wash their hands regularly to eliminate any germs that could potentially spread throughout the center. Also ensure that if your child is diagnosed with the flu or something similar, that they wait 24 hours after their fever breaks to ensure that your child is not contagious.

Keep Your Child At Home

Last, but certainly not least, keep your child at home. The CDC has stated that flu-like symptoms can be contagious for up to seven days after the onset of the first symptom. It is always better to be safe than sorry when we are looking at the flu and similar illnesses.
